The music industry is growing and is a fantastic place to make a career, whether or not as a musician or artist. Portfolio careers are now the norm. All students at WaterBear, whether studying music or a music business course, will learn about the business of music. We’ll work with you on how to build your own authentic brand and explore various commercial and business models, to determine the right path for you. Our team of business tutors know first-hand what it takes, many of them having successfully navigated the huge changes in the music industry over the last 20 years, not to mention the recent challenges of Covid-19.
Our innovative 1-1 mentoring and artist services programmes underpin what you’ll be learning in class. You’ll be able to access industry specialists who can help support in different areas of your personal development and career ambitions. All you need to do is bring an open mind and a thirst for making amazing things happen.
At WaterBear, we’re proud to work with some of the industry’s most accomplished music professionals. Tutors and mentors who are all highly experienced at every level of the music industry, alongside our visiting faculty who bring their wealth of experience in the form of in-class masterclasses and Q&A’s sessions throughout the year. As working professionals, the tutoring and visiting faculty team may be subject to occasional change and availability may vary.
Music industry guest visits take place throughout the year, showcasing some of the best artists and innovators in today’s music. Our guest programme varies each year and some of our recent guests are shown below.
This week at our Brighton campus, we were joined by Sam Wilce from one of our partner companies @dittomusic who previously gave a Masterclass at our Sheffield campus during Development Week. Ditto Music is an online music distribution company, so Sam was discussing subjects such as how Ditto’s uploading process works, copyright, metadata, licensing and more, as well as answering any questions in the room. Thank you for your time Sam, and sharing your in-depth knowledge of the industry.

We were very happy to welcome world-renowned @sofarsoundsbtn back to WaterBear - this time to our Brighton HQ!
‘Sofar’ stands for Songs From A Room - their shows are usually acoustic, and in a setting that’s unusual for a gig. There are regular Sofar shows put on by local teams, in 400 cities around the world!
In this special WaterBear-only show, the line-up featured:
⭐️ @moonidleband
⭐️ @evangeline.eastwood
⭐️ @willowedenmusic
We want to say a massive thank you to the Brighton Sofar Sounds team, our talented and hardworking WaterBear musicians, and to the lovely audience who attended!
