Brighton is one of the best cities in the UK for music, nightlife and the creative arts. A city by the sea, WaterBear is situated in the very heart of it. If you're contemplating pursuing a degree in music, Brighton beckons as an ideal destination. Renowned for its dynamic and diverse music culture, the city has been a fertile ground for nurturing homegrown talents, such as Architects, Royal Blood, Bat for Lashes, The Levellers and Yonaka.
Whether a musician, singer-songwriter, music producer, sound engineer, DJ, vocalist, or simply passionate about how the music industry works, Brighton provides a wealth of resources and opportunities to foster your artistic abilities. From state-of-the-art recording studios to acclaimed live music venues, and famous music festivals.
Our Open Days are relaxed and informal and provide you with the opportunity to find out everything you need to know about WaterBear. You’ll be able to ask questions, chat with staff and students and experience the unique college environment for yourself. Click the link below to find out more and book your place.
Located on the South Coast, Brighton and Hove is one the most exciting places to live, bursting with creativity and famed for its eclectic culture. Brighton is less than one hour from London by train.
As a college run by professional musicians, we know everything about equipment and what kind of gear you need. Drummers learn on acoustic kits, guitarists and bassists plug into their own amps, music producers and electronic artists work with the latest tech and equipment. You’ll also find classic vintage gear alongside modern musical equipment to give you the best of both worlds.
We work closely with a number of local property agencies to help source the best accommodation for you. Brighton is a busy student town, so if you’re coming to WaterBear and need accommodation, let us know as soon as possible and we'll get things moving for you.
On Monday @waterbearvenue hosted our annual Innovation Night - an event to inspire WaterBears to think outside the box with their music, and encourage connections across different course pathways. Little known fact - the WaterBear band @MissionCreep was sparked from attending last year’s event!
The night set the scene for the theme of next term, where innovation will be at the forefront. There were some creative gear/tech demonstrations to get everyone feeling inspired, followed by the opportunity for everyone to try it out for themselves and play alongside new people. We also had an amazing performance from innovative MA graduate, @christianlesurfmusic!
Thank you to everyone who came and packed out the venue, we hope you’re feeling inspired and have perhaps learned a thing or two, and connected with some new WaterBears along the way. And massive thank you to Tom Stevens, Bob Earland, Kieron Pepper, and Greg Walton for their insights and demonstrations.

We’re big on finding volunteer opportunities for WaterBears, as not only does it build up your experience and industry contacts, but it can also lead to paid work! Recent graduate @ellenrosemusic had the opportunity to volunteer as junior sound tech role at We Out Here festival, and from this now has work at Glastonbury next year! Hard work and going the extra mile really does pay off in this industry. .
