The WaterBear Green Room is a historic grassroots music venue in the heart of Sheffield, hosting live gigs, showcases, club nights, open mics and special events throughout the year. Recently taken over by WaterBear – The College of Music, the venue has been refurbished to create an even better experience for artists, audiences and students, while preserving the character that has made it one of Sheffield’s best-loved live music spaces. This is just the beginning, with exciting plans to expand our programme and strengthen our role in Sheffield’s vibrant music community.
For WaterBear students, the Green Room is an extension of the classroom, providing opportunities for rehearsals, live performance workshops, stagecraft development and real-world performance experience. It is also a welcoming social space with a licensed bar and a year-round programme of live events.

KEEPING MUSIC LIVE
Independent music venues lie at the heart of grassroots music, where it all begins. This is where many emerging artists and musicians begin their journey to becoming successful, confident performers. In collaboration with the Music Venue Trust, we’ve launched the Keeping Music Live campaign to stand with and support these venues, to raise awareness of the challenges they face, and to champion their vital role in shaping the future of music.

WATERBEAR GREEN ROOM COLLEGE ACTIVITY
The Green Room is available for students to book their own gigs and events, and you’ll get regular opportunities to work there too. We also have two sister venues in Brighton called the WaterBear Venue offering the same opportunities for our students.
