Your guide to Sheffield student accommodation

Posted on January 18, 2024

It’s a stressful experience, deciding between student accommodation. Trust us, we get it. There are so many new questions you have never even had to consider. Especially if you are living in a totally new city. Where do I live? Where does everyone else live? How do I travel? These are all totally normal, and important, questions to be asking. But where do you get the answers?

Well, at WaterBear, we’ve put together this handy blog to explain what Sheffield student accommodation is like, where you should be looking, and where it’s all located. That way, you get an idea at just exactly where is best for you to live!

Now, WaterBear itself does not provide student accommodation directly. Although WaterBear does not have its own dedicated student housing, we work closely with local agents and landlords so you can find the best possible accommodation for you.

The following is a look at the agencies we work with, the accommodation they provide, and where they are based.

Claypenny Student Accommodation

A local, family-owned landlord, which has won awards from Sheffield City Council? We certainly are starting off strong! Claypenny are one of the most reputable accommodation organisations in the city, with over 60 properties available for students. Primarily based on the Eccey Road area of Sheffield, their properties are right in the heart of one of Sheffield’s major student centres. Surrounded by cool bars, nice shops and some of the best restaurants and coffee shops in the city, Eccey Road is one of the best places to live in Sheffield, especially if you are looking for that typical student experience. The properties provided by Claypenny typically consist of house shares, at very affordable rates.

Gatecrasher Apartments

Now this is the coolest Sheffield student accommodation. Wanna live on the site of an old nightclub which hosted mental raves? Do you also wanna live literally above your University, making commuting to early-morning seminars a less-than 5 minute affair? Well, Gatecrasher combines both of these into one absolutely lovely building. Featuring a mix of studios and multi-person apartments, along with a games room and a gym, Gatecrasher might just be one of the coolest places you can live in Sheffield. I mean, seriously, I want to live there. It looks great! Although, probably means you don’t have much of an excuse if you’re late to a seminar!

The Gate

Yeah, this one’s a bit further out than Gatecrasher. When I say further out, I mean across the road. God forbid! The Gate is an absolutely beautiful apartment block featuring some of the nicest flats you could get in a student property. Offering amenities such as a roof terrace, study rooms, games room, lounge, gym, vending machine, and cycle store, there is also an onsite residents’ team to ensure any issues or queries are dealt with as soon as possible. A 9-minute walk from the train station and 3 minutes from the city centre, what’s not to love!

Homes For Students

Another close one! Homes for Students offer several student halls across Sheffield, including Hannah Court, which is across the road from WaterBear HQ! All of Homes for Students’ properties are self-contained studios with own kitchen. Close to WaterBear, close to the city centre, and close to the train station. Could it get any better? Yes, it can! Homes For Students are actually offering an exclusive £350 cashback offer for WaterBear students when booking a room with them at either of their Devonshire Court and The Forge properties.

Cosmos – CRM Students

Okay Cosmos might have some of the coolest amenities of any accommodation on this list. I mean, seriously, it has an on-site gym, a basketball half-court, a landscaped courtyard, two rooftop terraces, a gaming room, a karaoke room, a TV lounge and a private library. What more could you want? Honestly, we shouldn’t be telling you this, why would you wanna leave the accommodation and come to WaterBear?

Only joking.

Go to your seminars.

Cosmos is situated right near the City Centre, close to Devonshire Green Park and the trendy Division Street. Only a ten-minute walk from WaterBear HQ, Cosmos is a fantastic accommodation option for your living needs.

Aside from these amazing properties, WaterBear also recommends the following letting agents to use to suit your accommodation needs. These letting agents have properties all over Sheffield, and they are ran by local residents, whom have vast experiences with Sheffield student accommodation. If you’re wanting a house-share in Broomhill, or a flat in the city centre, these letting agents are the perfect organisations to use.

Sheffield is blessed with plenty of amazing student property. We know it can be a daunting task to find somewhere to live, but we hope that this guide can be a helpful tool in knowing where to start.
