What is Development Week?

The WaterBear Development Week is a dedicated time for our students to connect even further with the music industry, broaden their network, and come away with new ideas and opportunities. Our regular development weeks feature carefully curated programmes of guest visits, panels, seminars, masterclasses, and gigs from an array of amazing musicians and partners from across the music industry.

This week at our Brighton campus, we were joined by Sam Wilce from one of our partner companies @dittomusic who previously gave a Masterclass at our Sheffield campus during Development Week. Ditto Music is an online music distribution company, so Sam was discussing subjects such as how Ditto’s uploading process works, copyright, metadata, licensing and more, as well as answering any questions in the room. Thank you for your time Sam, and sharing your in-depth knowledge of the industry.

Today we want to shine a spotlight on Brighton multi-instrumentalist @soundguythesoundguy who joined us for Day 2 of our Development Week. Their masterclass was titled ‘Musical Theory of Relativity’ which as the name suggests, delves so much deeper than your average music theory class... here we’ve picked out a few key moments to take away. Thank you Guy for the amazing talk!

*DEVELOPMENT WEEK DAY 4*
At our Sheffield campus we were treated to a masterclass with band manager, Rich Goodwin (@richgoodwin_) particularly notable for his work with @thereytons, who talked about his experience and answered questions from WaterBears. Over in Brighton we had a college-wide networking event with free pizza and chips, providing a great opportunity to meet future band mates/housemates/business partners/best friends for life!
