Role: Studio Technical Lead/Estates Assistant

Location: Sheffield

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Reports to: Head of Estates (Sheffield)

Remuneration: £TBC

I. BACKGROUND

WaterBear is a college of music with campuses in Sheffield and Brighton, and a thriving online provision. The college is an innovator in the sector, with a unique approach to brand, collaborations and a flexible course delivery model.

We are a College of Falmouth University and benefit from a close strategic relationship with our university partner.

The appointment to this post is representative of the company having matured beyond its start-up phase and continuing to grow. WaterBear expects to accommodate approximately 750 students studying undergraduate and post-graduate courses at each campus, with a significant additional number of online learners. The student demographic includes a number of mature professionals with established careers, as well as younger, highly motivated degree and master’s students. The opening of additional WaterBear centres in other locations will take the student numbers to over two thousand within the next few years. Known for innovation, quality and agility, WaterBear will dominate the music HE space in the UK.

II. JOB ROLE AND PURPOSE

WaterBear Education Ltd. is seeking to appoint a Studio Technical Lead/Estates Assistant based in Sheffield.

The purpose of the role is:

To ensure that WaterBear’s studio and mac suite facilities are maintained to a high standard at the WaterBear campus
To ensure WaterBear facilities are safe, secure and meet current industry standards at all times
To support the WaterBear Head of Estates in various tasks
To support the WaterBear Programme Managers, Programme Officers, core staff and tutor teams
To manage and maintain campus recording studio operations, including maintenance and bookings

III. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Undertake various tasks centred around studio management and support mac suites with relevant IT partners
Support various activities including lessons, events, equipment management, and recording studio delivery
Ensure teaching spaces are set and ready for timetabled sessions
Undertake and oversee general equipment maintenance

IV. CONTEXT

In addition to the criteria listed above it is essentially the postholder’s responsibility to aim to work in a way befitting a healthy work-life balance. It is of utmost importance that the professionals within the WaterBear team are fully aware of the various demands on the students in our care. We believe that students will learn most effectively if they have the requisite time and headspace for reflection and are healthy and happy in their studies. We believe the same to be true for all our staff members. In support of this we may from time to time recommend and provide professional development coaching, training or mentoring for all WaterBear staff to underpin this facet of WaterBear culture.

V. PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications, skills and experience

Essential

A degree in Music Technology/Production
At least 2 years’ prior experience in a studio recording technical position or other relevant experience
Working knowledge of recording studios and DAWs such as Logic, Ableton and Pro Tools
Understanding of stage backline and musical instruments/equipment in general
Awareness of basic health and safety and security procedures
Reliable with willingness to work flexible hours

Desirable

Friendly disposition with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Enthusiastic and willing to learn
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
Attention to detail

Flexibility around working hours is a requirement and there is an expectation that this role will support college events, including but not limited to open days, acquisition events and other college events as required.

Role: Social Media Presenter

Location: Brighton or Sheffield

Role type: Freelance

Reports to: Social Media Executive

Hours: Up to 15 hours per month (variable) Rate of pay: £15 per hour

JOB AIMS

We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic creators to become the face of WaterBear’s social channels. This role is ideal for individuals who are deeply connected to their local music communities, confident on camera, and passionate about championing emerging artists and grassroots music culture.

Representing on WaterBear’s social channels (amongst a pool of other presenters), you will attend gigs, events and music industry happenings, presenting on camera and creating entertaining content that celebrates emerging artists, venues, students, the wider music community and WaterBear’s proud presence within this.

JOB PURPOSE

Create engaging, personality-led content for WaterBear’s social media channels.
Represent WaterBear on camera at gigs, festivals, showcases, student events and industry
Interview artists, students, alumni and members of the local music community.
Identify and capture stories that highlight the energy and creativity of the local music scene.
Utilise connections with artists, promoters, venues and audiences to strengthen WaterBear’s
presence within the community.
Contribute ideas for social-first content that reflects current trends while remaining authentic to
the WaterBear brand.
Work closely with the marketing team to deliver engaging campaigns and increase audience reach.

MAIN DUTIES

The Social Media Presenters will:

Present confidently on camera, including introductions, event coverage and short-form pieces to camera.
Interview artists, audiences, industry professionals and the local music community.
Attend agreed music events and create engaging social-first content for Instagram,
TikTok and other platforms.
Work alongside the marketing team to deliver content aligned with current campaigns and priorities.
Pitch creative content ideas that celebrate local music culture and student life.
Stay up to date with social media trends, formats and platform best practice.
Capture high-quality video content suitable for editing into reels and short-form videos.
Submit footage promptly following events and collaborate with the marketing team during the editing process where required.
Capture behind-the-scenes moments and live event coverage.
Act as a positive ambassador for WaterBear, maintaining a professional, approachable
and inclusive presence at all times.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

Confident, comfortable and charismatic on camera.
Excellent communication and interviewing skills.
Passionate about music and active within the Brighton or Sheffield music scene.
Well connected with local artists, venues, promoters or music communities.
Strong understanding of TikTok, Instagram Reels and short-form video content.
Reliable, organised and comfortable working independently.
Available to work evenings and weekends when required.
Knowledge of WaterBear and the UK live music industry.

Desirable

Previous presenting, content creation or hosting experience.
Experience filming short-form content using mics and Smartphones.
Existing social media presence or portfolio of content.
